St. Martin in Schwyz

The fortunes of the parish church of St. Martin have always been closely linked to the history of the town, Schwyz. The first church here was already built in the 8th century, but then after the village burned down in 1642, the village centre with the main square, the church and town hall was completely remodelled. In the second half of the 18th century, it was once again time for a new church, this time constructed by the Singer brothers from Lucerne. They created an opus with top quality fittings and furnishings, stylistically on the cusp of rococo to classicism.
